When to Call for Plumbing Repair

One of the biggest issues with plumbing repair is that it is difficult to tell when it’s needed. Most of the system is hidden from view, and any issues it deals with tend to be subtle. If you know what to look for, though, you can identify plumbing problems early enough to prevent some damage. Read on for more information on when to call for a plumber.

Water Discoloration

You can tell a fair amount about the quality of your water, depending on what color it is. Reddish-brown water tends to indicate that something is shedding rust into your supply, for example. If your water suddenly changes color, and maintains that color even if you leave the water running, it’s a good idea to call for plumbing repair sooner rather than later.

Rising Bills

Always monitor your water bill to make sure that it is roughly in keeping with how much you’ve used that month. If your plumbing bill starts to rise steadily, even when you’re not using any more water than you normally do, it could mean that there’s a leak in your plumbing system somewhere. That’s a good time to have a plumber check your system—just to make sure.

Leaks or Water Damage

If a leak occurs deep in your plumbing system, there’s a pretty good chance that you won’t actually be able to see it. If it is close to the surface of a wall or floor, though, you may be able to notice any water damage that it causes. If you see a wet spot anywhere there are likely to be plumbing pipes, and it appears to be growing, call for plumbing repairs right away.
