How Do I Spot a Water Leak?

In our last post, we talked about the warning signs of a main water line leak on your property. While water pooling in your yard may be a fairly obvious sign that something is amiss, you should also keep in mind the fact that there are many other spots in which your plumbing system may spring a leak. Not all of these leaks will be quite as obvious as one causing a pool to form in your yard.

Even supposedly “minor” water leaks—though we contend that there is no such thing—can do very serious damage to a home if given the opportunity. That is why it is so important that you schedule prompt leak detection service in Phoenix, AZ with a professional plumber when water leaks develop. Of course, to do so you must first recognize that there is a water leak to begin with. Here are a few tips to help.

One of the major benefits of working with a professional plumber to find the source of your leaks is the fact that they will have a multitude of tools to work with. Using video camera pipe inspection or sonic listening systems to pinpoint leaks helps to take all of the guesswork out of the equation. Again, though, you need to schedule those services to take advantage of them, and that means that you first need to recognize that something is amiss.

  • A mysterious sound of running water. If you can hear water running somewhere in your home, but you know for sure that there is none in use, then you may, in fact, be hearing the sound of water leaking out of your system. These leaks may not be visible, which is why you should rely on senses other than your sight when on alert for leaks.
  • Low water pressure. Does it seem like your shower is a bit lackluster? Is there one particular faucet in your home that has slowed to little more than a trickle? If so, the water line supplying those fixtures could be leaking. Don’t ignore a drop in water pressure just because it is specific to one location.
  • Water stains or mold growth. We don’t tangle with very humid air in this part of the country. If you are seeing water stains or signs of mold growth in your home, it is likely the result of moisture coming from a plumbing leak. Don’t put your property at risk by letting water leaks run amok!
  • Warm spots along the floor. If you don’t have a hydronic in-floor heating system, you shouldn’t be feeling heat emanate up from the floor. If you do feel warm spots, you could have a hot water leak beneath the flooring of your home. It could even be a slab leak. We’ll find the source so that we can fix the leak with minimal disruption to your property.

If you suspect that you have water leaks anywhere in your home, remember to schedule your plumbing services with the professionals here at The Sunny Plumber.
