3 Great Water Treatment Systems to Consider

mom-and-daughter-kitchen-sinkPoor water quality can have serious consequences for your health. From causing gastrointestinal illnesses to effects on your skin, hair, and nervous system, drinking water with unsafe levels of contaminants can be harmful. Installing a water treatment system can prove helpful here. These systems remove trace levels of unwanted substances present in tap water and provide you with safe and clean drinking water.

Which water treatment system in Phoenix should you choose, though? Here we discuss the three best water treatment systems available and how they work.

Water Filters

A water filtration system uses filters that can remove unwanted impurities and contaminants from water. These include sediment, bacteria, and sources of unpleasant tastes and odor. It is important to remember here that while water filters can significantly reduce the level of contaminants present in your water, they cannot remove them entirely. That said, this water treatment system is effective for providing safe water.

You can choose between various types of filters based on the type of mechanism they use to filter the water.

Reverse Osmosis

A reverse osmosis filtration system also utilizes water filters for removing contaminants. Reverse osmosis is a process that involves forcing unfiltered water through a semi-permeable membrane at a specific pressure. The membrane allows the water molecules to pass through, but any contaminants in the water get left behind. The process can remove dissolved particles in the water providing you with a clean flow of water to enjoy.

Water Softener

A water softener removes minerals such as calcium and magnesium from the water. These minerals are responsible for what is known as “hard water.” The system uses an ion exchange process to do this.

When hard water enters the water softener, it flows through a column of spherical resin beads. These beads are charged with a sodium ion, which has a negative charge. In comparison, the calcium and magnesium ions present in hard water have a positive charge.

When the hard water is filtered through the resin, the beads can grab hold of the magnesium and calcium ions and release the sodium ions into the water. As a result, the water loses its hardness, and soft water flows into your home.

Once the water has passed through the resin, it also filters through activated carbon. This further removes other contaminants from the water, such as chlorine and organic compounds.

Get a Water Treatment System Installed

A water treatment system can help ensure you get easy access to clean drinking water. Filtration systems with an ion exchange filter can also remove hardness from water and deliver other benefits. For instance, hard water requires you to use more detergent. It also makes it difficult for soap and shampoo to produce lather. Moreover, bathing in hard water can aggravate your skin and leave it feeling itchy and dry.
