How Commercial Plumbing Differs from Residential Plumbing

Friday, March 28th, 2014

Just as commercial buildings differ in form and function than houses and apartments, so too does commercial plumbing differ from residential plumbing. Thinking about your office building’s plumbing needs in the same way that you think about your home’s plumbing needs can be a big mistake and cost you a great deal of money in unnecessary bills. Commercial plumbing repair in Mesa AZ differs as well, and you shouldn’t trust a service accustomed to residential calls to handle plumbing problems at your place of business. Here’s a brief rundown on how commercial plumbing differs from residential plumbing.

The biggest difference simply comes from the size and complexity of the system. A business needs to handle much heavier use than a home. A home usually handles no more than seven or eight people at the most, and often only at night or in the morning before work or school begins. Commercial plumbing needs to handle dozens of people or more throughout the course of the day. If your business is a restaurant, catering operation or something similar, then you also need a kitchen capable of serving up to hundreds of hungry customers.

The larger size goes hand-in-hand with a need to treat problems quickly and efficiently. Unlike a home, which can work around a problematic sink or toilet, your business can’t endure without its plumbing. Employees can’t simply be asked to “hold it” and customers won’t come back if they’re inconvenienced by a non-functioning bathroom. In the case of restaurants, it can literally cripple your business, since a faulty kitchen means no food for your customers. A commercial repair service needs to be able to react quickly, as well as handling a larger and more complex issue than a normal “house call.”

If you know how commercial plumbing differs from residential plumbing, the next step is to call a service that can do the job. The Sunny Plumber has considerable experience with commercial plumbing in Mesa, AZ and throughout the greater Phoenix area. If your business needs a plumber, don’t hesitate to give us a call. We respond quickly and won’t rest until you’re completely satisfied.

Why Mechanized Snakes Do Better than Hand-Cranked Snakes

Friday, March 21st, 2014

Snakes are a tried and true tool for handling clogs in your plumbing, whether it be hair and soap in your bathroom or grease and food particles in your kitchen. They’re essentially coils of stiff metal with a wire brush or similar fixture on the end to dig into the clogs. That allows you not only to reach the clog, but to either break it up or pull it straight out of the piping once the snake has dug in. You can purchase a simple hand-cranked snake at any hardware or home improvement store, but plumbing in Phoenix uses mechanical snakes to do the job. In all but the most benign cases, that’s usually the best option. Here’s why mechanized snakes do better than hand-cranked snakes.

In the first place, mechanized snakes usually have a longer reach and bring more power to bear. That allows them to reach the clog more readily and deal with it more efficiently. In order for the snake to work, the head needs to penetrate the bulk of the clog so that it can either pull the clog free or break it up into smaller compounds that can be washed away. A mechanized snake has the horsepower to do that, along with the reach to find the clog no matter where it lies in your plumbing. Without it, you have to rely on plain old-fashioned elbow grease to counter a clog that may not be willing to go without a fight.

Furthermore a mechanized snake usually has interchangeable heads, allowing the plumber to tailor the snake to fit the clog in question. That allows it to do its job much more effectively than a one-size-fits-all model, and better ensure that your plumbing stays open and ready to go.

If you know why mechanized snakes do better than hand-cranked snakes, the next step is to call on a plumber who knows how to use it. For plumbing in Phoenix, the experts at The Sunny Plumber are standing by to help. Give us a call to set up an appointment. We’ll do everything in our power to make that clog a thing of the past!

3 Ways Water Filtration Makes for a Healthier Home

Wednesday, March 12th, 2014

Here in Chandler AZ, water filtration systems are often used to help purify the water that comes into your home. Our civic water cleaning systems work quite well, but even they can’t account for everything. You can use a whole-house filtration system to help clear some of the trace minerals and similar contaminants out of the water. How, specifically, can that help you? Here are 3 ways filtration treatment of your water makes for a healthier home.

  • Clean water
As an experiment, fill an ice cube tray with tap water and another tray with filtered water bought from the store. You’ll be able to see a difference in the clearness and the crispness of the ice cubes when they’re done freezing. The filtered cubes are much clearer and cleaner. That results not only in better tasting water, but tastier foods that require water as part of their preparation.
  • Clean bodies
Water filtration systems can create cleaner water for bathing and showering. This tends to reduce the amount of abrasion your skin feels in the shower, sine it reduces trace minerals and similar components. Your skin doesn’t feel as red or raw, and your soap won’t leave a greasy film on your body when you’re done.
  • Clean clothes
Filtered water helps keep clothing soft and comfortable when you wear it. His further reduces irritation on your body, as well as leaving your clothes, cleaner and softer. To top it all off, clothes washed with filtered water tend to last longer (though admittedly that’s not a direct health care issue).

All of which means that water filtration makes for a healthier him in multiple ways and across a wide spectrum of everyday life. Water filtration systems are a natural means of keeping desert dust and similar contaminants out of your home. The Sunny Plumber is on call to discuss possible water filtration and other plumbing service options in Chandler with you and to implement whatever you decide it best for your home. Why Build-Up in Your Tank Can Result in Water Heater Repair

Friday, March 7th, 2014

Here in Gilbert AZ, water heater repair services often have to deal with deposits left by hard water. Mineral build-up can appear in your water heater tank anywhere where these is water with a high mineral contact. Hard water is mostly harmless (and components are typically calcium and magnesium), though it can be rough on the skin and can create crusty build-up on your faucets and pipes. Hat last part is important because it can create build-up in you water tank as well, which in turn can damage your water heater to the point where it may need to be replaced.

Mineral build-up tends to settle on the bottom of the heater’s water tank, where it can create odd formations and patterns. You can actually detect these formations by listening for strange gurgling and bubbling noises coming from the heater; that’s the sound of water moving through those formations.

Sadly, it’s not the formation that are the problem. It’s the insulating layer formed by the build-up, which now lies between the water you want to heat and the burners designed to heat it. At best, the heaters will have to stay lit longer to warm the water properly, since the heat must now move through an extra layer of material. That means higher bills on your monthly costs for doing the same job it did in the beginning.

In the worst case, the heat of the burner will disperse onto the metal surface of the water tank, increasing the strain on it and hastening its slow demise. Over time, that stress will likely create a breach in your water tank, which basically means replacing the entire unit.

The good news is that, while build-up in your tank can result in water heater repair, the right repair service can help stop it from getting to that point. The Sunny Plumber can perform regular maintenance sessions that involve draining your water tank to eliminate he build up and reduce the risk of this kind of damage.
